On To Higher Ground
A Poem for Yolanda Denise King
A beautiful rose grown from the garden
of two that believed in justice and equality
for all.
Your father, Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr. ~ a
fighter for the people.
Your mother, Coretta Scott King ~ a true
supporter for the cause ~ a strong force
that continued your father's legacy until
her calling home by the Almighty to join
her King again.
You, your eyes were open wide ~ seeing
more at times than possibly desired.
An individual whose soul was open to
embrace positivity.
The eldest of four and a role model with a
purpose.
Through performance on stage, production,
and speaking, you were about PEACE!
Your messages and passion tasted by many
of eyes and ears from the US to Africa.
While many lips expressed your youthful age
to have experienced that of transition so
soon ~ Jesus was only 33.
It's not the number of years spent here on earth
but what one has done in their time given that
matters most.
Your mission was completed and a job well done.
You made a difference, you motivated, you inspired,
and important of all, you left a mark.
The world will remember you as one that was
determined to give your all.
You are appreciated and wished well as you
move on to higher ground known as God's Kingdom.
