Beautiful brown soul just being a teenager.
A few wrong or twisted choices got you a
ticket into a community that has no good
intentions for young folks your shade.
Your 140 lbs of black gold did not deserve
to be damaged in the manner that it was.
Like Emmett, your screams for them to stop
went unheard, your tears fell endlessly like
an all day rainspell, your thoughts ~ this is
not the way I wanted to meet my maker.
And all I can hear in the back of my mind
are the narrated lines at the end of Menace
To Society ~ the movie ~ except, you were
not a menace just a teen wanting to fit in
and feel comfortable.
You still had a chance to get back in the game
~ athletically and academically but like Langston
Hughes, they deferred your dreams and your
plans.
Then, they covered up their faults and wrong doings
because it comes with the territory of those in
positions of authority.
We're (black folks) are not important.
It's considered one less in the midst of society.
Hopefully, your mother finds the strength and has
the backbone that Mama Till had until she took her
last breath to be with her baby boy again ~ and
that's JUSTICE ATTAINED FOR SOMETHING THAT
SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAD AN ENDING RESULT
IN THE TUNE OF DEATH.
When will the straw exist needed to break the camel's back?
