You've Long Won The Gold
A Poem for Gail Devers

The story of your life has been
my inspiration.
I constantly pull out the scene
of your coach expressing that
you must see beyond the wall.
Graves attempted to keep you
away but determination and will
had a different plan.
While daddy's words in prayer
and preaching were your sideline
fans.
Truth lying in the midst of three
being a charm ~ titles that hold your
name dear.
Failure wouldn't have a clue of your
character if it were psychic.
For you are a conquerer of many feats.
Your lastname scrambled spells
SERVED and that you've done.
See, you've long won the gold for your
specialty ~ hurdling ~ your heart became
its mantle from the day you chose to take
on the challenge.
